Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
6|5x+45|-113=7
6|5x+45| = 120
|5x+45| = 20
5x+45 = 20 or 5x+45 = -20
5x = -25 or 5x = -65
x = -5 or x = -13

ok, so when you have an absolute value problem you have to consider two cases (one regular one and the other one with the negative in front of the absolute value parenthesis)
CASE 1

divide both sides by 30

CASE 2

Thanks in advance.

Step 1. Note that is the same as 5x+45 when 5x+45 is positive and -(5x+45) when 5x+45 is negative.

Step 2. Let

Add 113 to both sides

Divide 6 to both sides of the equation

and

Step 3. ANSWER is x=-5 and x=-13.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
