the Absolute value |x| is defined as
|x|=x if x>0
= -x if x<0
=0 if x=0
in our problem the absolute value of -6=|-6|=-6 ;-6<0
the absolute value of -2=|-2|= -2;-2<0
[the absolute value of -6 ]-[absolute value of -2]
=|-6|-|-2|
= (-6)-(-2)
=-6+2= -4
