|x+4| = |2x-7|

Make two equations without absolute value bars:

1.  For the first equation, you just replace the
    absolute bars by parentheses: 

    %28x%2B4%29+=+%282x-7%29
    x%2B4=2x-7
    -x=-11
    x=11

2.  For the second equation, you just replace the
    absolute bars by parentheses, but you put a negative
    sign in front of one of the parentheses, it doesn't
    matter which, as you'll get the same answer: 

    %28x%2B4%29+=+-%282x-7%29
    x%2B4=-2x%2B7
    3x=3
    x=1  
     
So the two solutions are 11 and 1.
