Question 1030971: Find the point-slope form of the equation of the line passing through the points (–1, –3) and (4, 1).

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

x1 y1 x2 y2
-1 -3 4 1

slope m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
( 1 - -3 )/( 4 - -1 )
( 4 / 5 )
m= 4/5
The required line passes through both the points. So we select one point and plug it with the slope
Plug value of the slope and point ( -1 , -3 ) in
Y = m x + b
-3.00 = 4/5 * -1 + b
-3.00 = - 4/5 + b
b= -3 + 4/5
b= -2 1/ 5
So the equation will be
Y = 4/5 x -11/5
