Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I'm assuming the equation is |n - 3| = 5
|n - 3| = 5
n - 3 = 5 or n - 3 = -5
n - 3+3 = 5+3 or n - 3+3 = -5+3
n = 8 or n = -2
So if |n - 3| = 5, then n = 8 or n = -2
