Question 968470: a cubical container with base of 36 square cm is half filled with water if a cube with an edge of 3 cm is submerged in the tank by how many cm will the water level rise?
Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
volume of cubical container (half filled is 36*36*18 = 23328 cm^3
volume of cube is 3^3 = 27 cm^3
displacement of submerged cube is 27 ml
note that 1 ml = 1 cm^3
therefore,
36*36*x = 23328 +27 = 23355
x = 23355 / 36^2 = 18.020833333
level rises approx .02 cm
