Question 872632: Help would be appreciated to figure out the following question
An empty drum weighs 18.0385 kg and when filled with benzene it weighs 25.418kg. If the density of benzene is 0.8766 g/mL, calculate the volume of benzene in the drum.
Thanks in advance

Answer by josgarithmetic(39630) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This results in unit of kilograms.
The first part of the expression is a difference; being the kilograms of benzene, meaning the MASS of benzene.
The density unit can be converted from grams/ml to kilograms/liter without recomputation, because the change is from 1 grams to 1000 grams and from 1 ml to 1000 ml. 1000 grams is 1 kilogram, and 1000 ml is 1 liter. Density of 0.8766 grams/ml is the same as 0.8766 kg/liter.
Use of the density can be done in given form, or in reciprocal form, depending on a person's needs. You have a quantity of mass, and you want to use the material's density to find the value of its volume. Use the density as 1 liter per 0.8766 kilograms.
I placed the numeric part of the expression first, and the corresponding units second.
