Question 871945: Question1:
A rectangular tank is 3m by 2.4m by 2m and is full of water. The water is pumped into an empty cylindrical tank of base radius 2m. how high up the tank will the water level rise?
Question2:
A concrete tank has an external diameter of 10m and an internal heights of 3m. If the walls and bottom of the tank are 30cm thick, how many cubic metres of concrete are required to make the tank?
Question3:
A homestead roof measures 10.7m by 24.6m. If 836mm falls on the roof per annum, and 90% of this water is collected in a tank, what volume of water is collected in a year?

A rectangular tank is 3m by 2.4m by 2m and is full of water. The water is pumped into an empty cylindrical tank of base radius 2m. how high up the tank will the water level rise?
Volume of water in tank = 3*2.4*2= 14.2 m^3
radius of cylindrical tank = 2m
V ( cylinder) = pi*r^2*h
14.2 = pi * 2^2*h
14.2/4*pi = h
24.85 m high.
Question2:
A concrete tank has an external diameter of 10m and an internal heights of 3m. If the walls and bottom of the tank are 30cm thick, how many cubic metres of concrete are required to make the tank?
external diameter = 10 m : radius = 5m---r1
wall thick ness = 0.3 m
internal radius = 5-0.3= 4.7 m---r2
Volume of curved area = 2*pi* thickness of wall
2*pi*0.3
0.6 pi
Volume of base = pi*r1^2
pi*5^2
=25pi
Total volume of concrete = 25pi+0.6pi= 25.6 pi m^3
plug value of pi
Question3:
A homestead roof measures 10.7m by 24.6m. If 836mm falls on the roof per annum, and 90% of this water is collected in a tank, what volume of water is collected in a year?
1 mm rain is 1 liter on 1 m^2 area
The area of roof = 10.7*24.6 = 263.22 m^2
836 mm of rain = 836 liters / sq. m
volume of water = 263.22*836
=220952 liters of water will be collected
