I have a piece of wood that is 3.35 metres long, and can lean it against a wall that has a max height of 1.8 metres. What is the distance from the wall to the end of the piece of wood that would be on the ground?

You have a right triangle, so we can use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance from the wall to the end of piece of wood
(1.8)^2 + x^2 = (3.35)^2
3.24 + x^2 = 11.22
x^2 = 7.87
x = 2.81 meters
