Question 789200: There are 145 boxes, each size 18 inches x 20inches x 21.5 inches.
1) How many cubic FEET of space are needed to store them?
2) Can this space be defined instead of in cubic feet, by the three sides of the total space needed
so a lay person can figure out if they have enough garages to store? : )
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1)
Each box has a volume of 18 * 20 * 21.5 = 7,740 cubic inches
Divide this by 1728 (since 12^3 = 1728) to get 7,740/1728 = 4.47916667
Note: 1 ft = 12 inches ---> (1 ft)^3 = (12 in)^3 ---> 1 ft^3 = 1728 in^3
So each box takes up roughly 4.47916667 cubic feet
You have 145 boxes, so they will take up 145*4.47916667 = 649.47916715 cubic feet (roughly)
