Question 729310: what is the approximate surface area of a cardboard tube that is open at both ends, has a diameter of 3 inches, and has a height of 7.25 inches?
Answer by fcabanski(1391)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Surface area of a cylinder (a tube is a cylinder) is 2 times the area of the base plus circumference times height. Since this is a tube without ends, there is no surface area on the bases. So the surface area is just area of the base times the height.

The circumference of a circle is pi*d.

SA = pi*d*h = pi*3*7.25 = approximately 68.33 square inches.
