Lorraine spent 25% of her money on shopping and 2/5th of the remainder on food.

 If she is left with £450, 

what is the amount  of money she had before she started spending.

      450 = .45x

      450/.45 = x

       £1000 = x



and

£1000  - £250 - £300 = £450
