A rectangular beam of timber is 16 meters long, 80 centimeters wide and 50 centimeters deep.
If a piece containing 2 cubic meters cut from the beam perpendicular to its length, what length would be left?
:
Convert 80 cm to .8 meters
Convert 50 cm to .5 meters
:
Let p = length of the piece cut from the beam
:
The volume of the cut piece
p * .5 * .8 = 2
.4p = 2
p =
p = 5 meters long
then
16 - 5 = 11 meters left
