Question 383817: I decide to paint the walls of my rectangular living room. The room is 10 feet wide and 30 feet long. The walls are 11 feet tall. There is one door leading into the room that is 5 feet wide and 7 feet tall. There is one large window that is 5 feet wide and 4 feet tall.
Each gallon of paint I buy will cover 100 ft2 of wall. How many gallons of paint will I need to purchase? Remember to round your answers UP to the next whole number of gallons so you have enough paint!

area of 4 walls = 2*(L*H)+2*(W*H)
TA = 2*30*11+2*10*11
TA= 660+220
TA=880 ft^2

5 ft by 7 feet
Area = 5*7 = 35 ft^2

WINDOW
5ft by 4ft
Area = 20 ft^2

Painting Area = 880-35-20=825ft^2

100 ft^2 ------------- 1 gallon

=8.25 gallons area required.
