Question 293979: The equation for finding the volume of a sphere is so I have a question; what does the 4/3 stand for? Pi is equal to about 3.14 and I know tha r=radius which is half the diameter... but what about the 4/3? Is it some random number that just worked? This is the question that haunts me! Please help me!

That's the equation for the volume of a sphere.
The equation can be derived in various ways, but that is always the result.
-----------------
The derivative of that is , which is the equation for the surface area of a sphere. I hope that doesn't keep you awake at night.
---------------
The area of a circle is , and the derivative of that is 2pi*r, the circumference. Spooky, huh?
