Question 277620: Is there an equation that I can use to calculate the amount of water required to run a readymix concrete batching plant. For example, the plant that is proposed to be built is capable of producing 380 cubic metres of readymix concrete per hour. Some recycling will be done, regardless upon start up there has to be a resevoir full of water ready to be pumped in to make the first batch . So, disregarding the variations in the mixture quality for each job and addatives, on average how much water would be required to meet the needs of a batching plant that produces 380 cubic metres of concrete per hour.......in megalitres .
Thanks in advance.

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"The main reason to add water to concrete — above and beyond what is needed for the proper hydration of the cement particles — is to improve workability, of course. “The rule of thumb is: 0.22 to 0.25 water-to-cement ratio is required for complete hydration,” says Schlagbaum. Most mixes have water-to-cement ratios of 0.40 to 0.60 primarily for workability purposes, he adds. But keeping the water-to-cement ratio down through the use of water reducers improves the concrete’s hardened properties."

I found this statement using Google on the web.
As you see there is no agreement of the amount
of water to be used.
