Question 212609: johns father offers to pay him 1 cent for doin the dishes the first night, 2 cents for doing the dishes the secong, 4 cents for the third night and so on doubling each night. write an expression using ecponets for the amount john will get paid on the third night...
Answer by rapaljer(4671) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This is a series of numbers starting with 1, 2, 2^2, 2^3, 2^4, etc. Each additional day, you multiply by 2. So for the third night, the third entry will be 2^2.
As a side note, do you see what John's father will be paying at the end of the month? You will need a calculator, but if there are 31 days in the month, this would be 2^30! I don't have my calculator with me right now, but YOU do the math--John's dad is in BIG TROUBLE if he does dishes for the whole month!!!
