Question 193927: Someone please help. I don't understand how to get the volume in a conical figure. This is a homework question not in the text.
A conical water tank has a base with a diameter of 6 ft and is 10 ft tall. How many gallons of water will the tank hold? Round your solution to the nearest hundredth. (1 cubic foot holds about 7.480519 gallons)

Answer by Earlsdon(6294)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The volume of a right circular cone is:
where B = the area of the base () and h is the height of the cone.
In this problem, the diameter of the base is 6 ft. so its radius (r) is 3 ft.
The height (h) is given as 10 ft.
Make the appropriate substitutions and use as an approximation.

cu.ft. Now multiply this by gallons/cu.ft.
Answer: 704.67 gallons (rounded to nearest hundredth)
