Question 162091: This is from a worksheet and I have two questions. Please Help
1. To the nearest tenth, what is the volume of a sphere whose radius is 1 yard? (V=4/3 pi r^3)
2. Solids A and B are similar. The height of solid A is 6 meters and the height of solid B is 15 meters. If the volume of solid B is 250 cubic meters, what is the volume of solid A?
I must show my work for both problems and am totally lost. Please help.
Thanks

1. To the nearest tenth, what is the volume of a sphere whose radius is 1 yard? (V=4/3 pi r^3)
:
Just substitute 1 for r:
V =
Using a calc:
V =
V = 4.1888; rounded to 4.2 cu.yds
:
:
2. Solids A and B are similar. The height of solid A is 6 meters and the height of solid B is 15 meters. If the volume of solid B is 250 cubic meters, what is the volume of solid A?
:
Perhaps we can easily find a relationship here;
Assume we have 2 cubes,
6^3 = 216
15^3 = 3375
:
Using this relationship in a ratio:
=
Cross multiply
3375A = 216 * 250
3375A = 54000
A =
A = 16 cu meters
