The diameter of the circle halves which make up the ends = 20 ft, radius = 10 ft

Find the area of the two half circles:
A = pi*10^2
A = 314.16 sq ft

Add to the rectangular portion:
314.16 + (20*40) = 1114.16 sq ft is the total of the pool

Find the overall area which include the 1 foot border and the pool:

Diameter of the ends, and the width of the pool = 22 ft, radius = 11 ft.
length of rectangular portion remains the same; 40 ft

A = pi*11^2
A = 380.13 sq ft

Add the rectangular portion
380.13 + (22*40) = 1260.13 sq ft is the total area (pool & border)

Total area - pool area = border area
