Question 1180607: Two cylinders are partially filled with water, each to a
depth of24feet. The smaller cylinder has a radius of
3feet and the larger has a radius Of 4feet. Water is
emptied from the larger cylinder into the smaller
cylinder until each holds an equal volume of water.
What is the difference between the depths Of the
two cylinders in feet and inches?

Two cylinders are partially filled with water, each to a
depth of24feet. The smaller cylinder has a radius of
3feet and the larger has a radius Of 4feet. Water is
emptied from the larger cylinder into the smaller
cylinder until each holds an equal volume of water.
What is the difference between the depths Of the
two cylinders in feet and inches?
Volume of water in bigger cylinder = pi * r^2 *h = pi*16*24 = 384ft^3
smaller cylinder pi*3^2*24=216 pi
They have equal volume after pouring from bigger to smaller
(384pi+216Pi)/2 = 300 pi
bigger cylinder V= pi r^2 * h
300 pi = pi * 4^2*h
300/16 = 18.75 ft
smaller cylinder
300 pi = pi * 3^2*h
300/9 = h
h=33.3 ft
