Question 1160279: A container with base measuring 60cm by 40cm and a height of 25cm was 4/5 filled with water. some of the water was removed, causing the water level to fall by 5 cm. The remaining water was then poured in to a tank and a basin, filling them to their brims, the capacity of basin was 1/3 that of the tank. if the tank was 18cm long and 15 cm wide. what was the height of the water in the tank??

Depth of container: 25cm

Depth of water in container originally: (4/5) of 25cm = 20cm

Depth of water after some was removed: 20-5 = 15cm

Volume of water remaining: 60*40*15 = 36000 cm^3

Capacity of tank: (3/4) of 36000 cm^3 = 27000 cm^3 (because the capacities of the tank and basin are in the ratio 3:1)

Height of tank (volume of tank, divided by cross-sectional area of the tank): 27000/(18*15) = 27000/270 = 100

ANSWER: the height of the water in the tank = the height of the tank = 100cm.
