Question 1138958: A ball is placed inside a box into which it will fit tightly. If the the radius of the ball is 10cm, calculate:
A) volume of the ball
B)volume of the box
C) the percentage volume of the box not occupied by the ball
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The radius of the ball is 10 cm so the diameter is 20 cm and that is the side of the square box (has to be square to contain a sphere.)
Box volume is 20 cm cubed or 8000 cm^3
Volume of ball is (4/3)pi r^3=4188.79 cm^3, which is 52.36% of the box
so the answer to C is 100-52.36=47.64% not occupied by the ball.
