Notice that the side of the cube is   = 6 cm long.


Let  H  be the original level of the water in the container.


Then the balance equation for the volume is


    10*12*6 = 10*12*H + 216    cubic centimeters,    <<<---===  This formula is self-explanatory


which gives you the solution  


    H =  = 4.2 cm.    ANSWER

The answer is the option E).
