Each can be packed in a box which is .7cm by .7cm by 4.5cm high
:
the volume of this can box is .7 * .7 * 4.5 = 2.205 cm^3
:
the volume of a can = pi * radius^2 * height = (22/7) * (0.35)^2 * 4.5 = 1.7325 cm^3
:
the wasted space for a single can is 2.205 - 1.7325 = 0.4725 cm^3
:
there are 48 cans, therefore the total wasted space = 48 * 0.4725 = 22.68 cm^3
