Question 1008032: a hollow sphere sits snugly in a foam cube so that the sphere touches each side of the cube. find the volume of the foam

The volume of the foam would be the volume of the cube minus the volume of the sphere...say the sphere has a radius of r, then the cube has a side of 2r...then we have
V(foam) = V(cube) - V(sphere)
V(foam) = (2r)^3 - (4/3)(pi)r^3
V(foam) = 8r^3 - (4/3)(pi)r^3
