BD , the diagonal of the parallelogram.
We use vectors for displacement, as in "go 3 miles in the direction 30%5Eo east of North."
The displacement from vertex B to vertex C in the same as
the displacement from vertex A to vertex D (they are parallel, same magnitude/distance, and in the same direction),
so BC=AD.
BA + BC means going from B to A, and then from A to D.
The sum means going from B to D.
