Question 213988: I just recently have learned how to find the vertex of a function. However, with this problem, the fraction ... confused me. :) I get half way through, then get entirely lost!
Determine the vertex of each function by completing the square.
y= 8x^2 + -14x + -72
Thanks!

Question 214182: I'd have a, maybe somewhat weird, question; I have to draw a scatter plot (which I did), now it says to; "describe the nature of the correlation"...
I have started but didnt come far;
r=Mxy-MX*My over σx*σy= 88.004-(28)(3.143) over .... I dont know what to set in for σx*σy and I dont understand how the problem is then solved.
Could someone help me out with this please?
values of x; 0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 values of y; 1, 2, 2, 4, 3, 4, 6
σ = sigma

Question 215013: The height of a ball thrown directly up from a roof 144 ft high with an initial velocity of 128 ft/sec is given by the formula y= 144 + 128t- 16t^2. What is the maximum height attained by the ball?
At first, the problem looked to be a quadratic equation... but then I assumed it had something to do with the velocity formula. Essentially, I am a bit lost.
Thanks in advance!

Question 215034: Bob is driving along a straight and level road straight toward a mountain. At some point on his trip he measures the angle of elevation to the top of the mountain and finds it to be 25 degrees and 24'. He then drives 1 mile (1 mile=5280 ft) more and measures the angle of elevation to be 34 degrees and 40'. Find the height of the mountain to the nearest foot.
I'm not allowed to use law of sines, i have to solve it algebraically according to my teacher.
i can set it up and make a drawing and everything, i just can't figure it out.
thank you!!!
