Question 117947: sin^2x - sin^4x = (cos^2)(sin^2x)
sin^2x - (sin^2x)(sin^2x) = (cos^2x)(sin^2x)
sin^2x - (sin^2x)(1/csc^2x) = (cos^2x)(1/csc^2x)
sin^2x - (sin^2x/csc^2x) = (cos^2x / csc^2x)
cos^2x [sin^2x - (sin^2x / csc^2x) = (cos^2x / csc^2x)]
(sin^2x)(csc^2x) - sin^2x = cos^2x
(sin^2x)(csc^2x) = cos^2x + sin^2x
(sin^2x)(csc^2x) = 1
(1/csc^2x)(csc^2x/1) = 1
1 = 1
Can I prove the above identity this way? Or have I taken a leap of faith somewhere along the line?
Thank you very much.

Question 118423: Hello, I have several problems which I attempted. However, I dont understand why one is vector and the other scalar.
Use the vectos u=<2,2> and v=<-3,4> to find the indicated quantity. State whether the result is a vector or a scalar.
1) u X u
2) (u X v)v I got <-6,8> vector
The first one says that it is 2 sq.root 2 squared, which is 8, and scalar.
Why? What is the difference?
Big thank you to who explains this. You people are amazing, and thank you for your time.

Question 118679: Hello I have a few problems that I can't get, if anyone could help me, that would be great!
1) A sliding door moves along the line of vector PQ. If a force is applied to the door along a vector that is orthogonal to PQ then no work is done. True or False, justify your answer.
Orthogonal is perpendicular, right? So if force is applied to the long side of the door, then the door moves so work is done? But how can you show this mathematically?
2) sin2x - sqrt3sinx = 0 FInd exact solutions of the equation in the interval [0,2PI)
I got to as far as 2sinx-cosx - sqrt3sinx = 0
Thank you in advance to any tutors that help!

Question 123996: Ok, so I have my Honors Algebra 2 FINAL tomorrow and there is this certain type of problem I just don't understand. No matter how many times I try these types of problems I just can't seem to get them right. Could someone maybe explain to me how to do the following type of problem? That would be a huge help. I'm hoping that maybe a second explanation other than the one from my teacher will help me finally understand.
You could use this problem as an example.
