For very small values of theta (in radians), sin(x) approximately equals x.
The first five terms of the Taylor series expansion for sin(x) is
sin%28x%29=x-x%5E3%2F3%21%2Bx%5E5%2F5%21-x%5E7%2F7%21%2Bx%5E9%2F9%21
So when x is small, x%5E3 and higher order terms become insignificant to the final answer.
You just have to define what small means in your case.
