So I figured I have to solve each equation to (y=), graph it, and then state if the system is independent, inconsistent or dependent.
1) 5x-2y=-1
4x+3y=13
a. 5x-2y=-1
-2y=-1-5x
y=1/2+5/2x

b. 4x+3y=13
3y=13-4x
y=13/3-4/3x
After solving the system and then graphing it I have come to the conclusion that the system is Independent.
Am I solving the system correctly or am I way off? PLEASE HELP!!!

we can use any method we like to solve the equations

multiply 5x-2y=-1 by 3 and multiply 4x+3y=13 by 2 and add the results
(15x-6y=-3) + (8x+6y=26), we get
23x = 23
x = 1 and y = 3
therefore we know that the two lines intersect at one point, now look at the equations as y = mx +b
y = (5/2)x +(1/2) and
y = (-4/3)x +(13/3)
the slopes(m) of the two lines are different, therefore they are independent
