Answer by MathLover1(20850) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Draw right triangle and mark a point 17ft farther from the tree ,the height of the tree , angle off ° between horizontal line and sloping line mark with .
Then:
the angle of elevation to the top of the tree was °. Moving to a point farther, the angle of elevation becomes °.
°
...........eq.1
Moving to a point farther, the angle of elevation becomes ,° so we have:
°
...........eq.2....
the left sides of eq.1=eq.2, so we have
...........solve for
=> =>
-the height of the tree

-----
Draw the picture so you can SEE what you are doing.
---
You have a right triangle.
The base is 17 ft
The height is the tree = h ft
The base angle where you are standing is 48 degrees
-------
Using trigonometry you get:
tan(48) = opp/adj = h/17
----
h = 17*tan(48)
h = 17*1.11
height = 18.88 ft
