Use the quadratic formula to get:
sin(x) = [-1 +- sqrt(1-4*2*-1)]/4

sin(x) = [-1 +- sqrt(9)]/4

sin(x) = [-1 +- 3]/4

sin(x) = 1/2 or sin(x) = -1
