Question 888439: A radio tower is 600 ft. high .Two cables tied to the top of the tower are anchored at two points A and B on level ground such that the angles made by the cables with the horizontal are 57 degrees 30 minutes and 43 degrees 50 minutes respectively .Find the lengths of the cables.

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
57 degrees 30 minutes is equal to 57 + 30/60 degrees is equal to 57.5 degrees.

43 degrees 50 minutes is equal to 43 + 50/60 degrees is equal to 43.833... degrees.

the height is equal to 600 feet.

you want sine (57.5) = 600 / x.

x is the hypotenuse of the triangle formed and is the length of one of the cables.

you want sine (43.833...) = 600 / y

y is the hypotenuse of the triangle formed and is the length of the other cable.

solve for x to get x = 600 / sine (57.5) = 711.413... feet.

solve for y to get y = 600 / sine (43.83...) = 866.347...

length of the cable is x + y = 1577.760... feet
