Question 876120: plz help me solve this
tan-1[tan(200)] where 200 is in radians.
I've tied to solve it:
x must be -pi/2 < x < pi/2
x= 200rad - pi = 20 rad (since tan is periodic)
so tan(inverse)(tan 20rad)= 20rad
because tan invrse and tan cancel each other
is my answer correct??

tan (inverse)(tan 200 rad)

============
tan (inverse)(tan 200 rad) = 200 rad
----
Subtract 2pi repeatedly until it's <= 2pi
= (200 MOD (2pi))*(2pi) =~ 5.221 radians
5.221 is not between -pi/2 and pi/2, so
5.221 - 2pi = -1.0619 radians

tan-1[tan(200)]

You may as well just punch it out entirely on a calculator,
since it doesn't involve a special angle. So you'll have to
have to use a calculator anyway. So there's no need to simplify it.

If you have a TI-83 of 84,

Press ON
Press CLEAR

If your calculator is already in radian mode, skip
these five steps, otherwise:

Press MODE
Press the down arrow key twice to scroll down to RADIAN
Press ENTER
Press 2ND
Press MODE

With calculator in radian mode,

Press 2ND
Press TAN, see  tan-1(
Press TAN, see  tan-1(tan(
Type 200)), see tan-1(tan(200))
Press ENTER, see -1.06192983

Answer: -1.06192983
