sin = y/r, so y = 8 and r = 17

Then x = sqrt[17^2-8^2] = sqrt(225) = 15

Therefore tan(x) = y/x = 8/15

Note:: You did not post the quadrant for "x".
You may have to adjust the sign of tan(x).

tan(2x) = 2tan(x)/[1-tan^2(x)]

tan(2x) = 2(8/15)/[1-(8/15)^2]
