A 12-foot guy wire is attached to a
telephone pole 10.5 ft from the top
of the pole. If the wire forms a 52
degree angle with the ground, how
high is the telephone pole?

                opposite
   sin(52°) = ------------
               hypotenuse

                x
   sin(52°) = ----
               12

Multiply both sides by 12

12 sin(52°) = x

9.456129043 = x

Total height of pole = 9.456129043 + 10.5 = 19.95612904

So you'd round that off to about 20 feet.
