Question 796755: Give the amplitude, period, vertical translation, and phase shift:
y= 1/3tan(3x-π/3)
I am trying to figure out why the phase shift is π/9 to the right

Give the amplitude, period, vertical translation, and phase shift:
y= 1/3tan(3x-π/3)
***
Equation for tan function:y=tan(Bx-C),period=π/B, Phase shift=C/B
For given tan function:
y=(1/3)tan(3x-π/3)
B=3
Period=π/B=π/3
C=π/3
Phase shift=C/B=(π/3)/3=π/9(to the right)
vertical translation=1/3
amplitude:(-∞,∞)
..
Why phase shift to the right?
rewriting function might make it more recognizable. Factor out 3.
y=(1/3)tan3(x-π/9)
