Question 72219: I have to solve a problem for theta. I have simplified it to: sin theta = -3.
But now I can't remember what to do after this step, to find theta! I know that theta is between 0 and 90 degrees...
Thanks in advance for your help!

Well for one thing, I think you have a flaw in your simplification process. In order to solve for theta you have to take the arcsine of both sides. If you take the arcsine of -3, you wont get a real number. The reason why is because the function sine is defined on a unit circle as: opposite side/hypotenuse. Since the opposite side is always going to be smaller (the hypotenuse is the largest side) the fraction will always be smaller than 1. Actually the range of sin(theta) is -1<=y<=1. Try to redo the problem, or post the whole thing, to get the absolute value of the number less or equal to 1.
