Question 681582: if cos of beta = 2/3 what is the tan of beta?
Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if cos of beta = 2/3 what is the tan of beta?
----------
cos = x/r, so if cos = 2/3, x = 2 and r = 3
------
Solve for "y":
y^2 = r^2-x^2
y = sqrt[3^2-2^2] = sqrt(5)
------
Now you know x,y, and r so you can calculate ALL of the trig
functions for the angle beta.
-------
tan = y/x = sqrt(5)/2
