Question 554909: Hello! So I've continually tried this problem over and over, and I can't figure out how to get the right answer. The homework this is based off of is not due until next week, so no rush. I would like to get it out of the way as soon as possible, though. Any help is appreciated. :)
The problem states:
Consider a ladder leaning up against a wall.
Find the length of a ladder if it makes an angle of 67 degrees with the ground and its feet are 0.9 meters from the wall.
What I tried doing was 0.9 x tan(69) = 2.12
However, in the back of the book, the answer is 2.30 meters.
I tried this with 0.9 x sin(69) and cos(69) and I couldn't get the right answer. Thank you very much for your time. :)

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Consider a ladder leaning up against a wall.
Find the length of a ladder if it makes an angle of 67 degrees with the ground and its feet are 0.9 meters from the wall.
---
Draw the picture.
The ladder the hypotenuse.
cos(67) = adjacent/hypotenuse = 0.9/hypotenuse
----
hypotenuse = 0.9/cos(67) = 2.30 meters
