Question 522030: 2x+5y=1
-x+6y=8

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2 x + 5 y = 1 .............1
-1 x + 6 y = 8 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by 6
Multiply (2) by -5
12 x 30 y = 6
5 x -30 y = -40
Add the two equations
17 x = -34
/ 17
x = -2
plug value of x in (1)
2 x + 5 y = 1
-4 + 5 y = 1
5 y = 1 + 4
5 y = 5
y = 1
