Question 410549: what is the value of "sin to the -1 power times .707"?

-1
sin .707=

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
sin^-1 (.707) = 44.99134834 which is very close to 45 degrees.

I suspect that the problem started from:

sin(45) = .707106781

sin^(-1) (.707106781) is the same as arcsin (.707106781) which means:

find the angle whose sine is .707106781.

In your calculator, if you have a sine function, then you enter 45 and hit the sine function key to get .707106781.

to find the arcsin, or sin(-1), you enter .707106781 and then hit the 2d key and then the sine function key to get 45 degrees.

That's the way it works with a TI-30XA calculator.

If you are using a different calculator, then the method might be different.

you can also use sine tables and work backward.

sin^(-1) is not a formula like x^(-1) = 1/x.

sin^(-1) is a definition which means find the angle whose sine is .....
