A spider and a ﬂy are in the same room. The spider is hungry and the ﬂy is asleep. The room is 15 m long, 6 m wide and 6 m high. The spider is on an end wall, 0.5 m from the ceiling and halfway between the side walls. The ﬂy is on the other end wall, 0.5 m from the ﬂoor and halfway between the side walls. The spider wants to reach the ﬂy but must crawl on the walls, ceiling and ﬂoor to get to its prey. What is the shortest route the spider might take? (Hint: The answer is not 21 m.)

He crawls 0.5 m to the ceiling, 15 m across it, then 5.5 m down the other wall.
The sum is 21 meters.
