Question 310827: A balloon is anchored to a rope of length 500 feet. Express the angle of elevation from the anchor to the balloon as a function of height. Height is the leg opposite the angle.
What I did:
sin theta=h/500
500sin theta=h
but my teacher wrote inverse sin(h/500)
and I don't understand why.

Most likely it's because you did not answer the question.
The question was..."Express the ANGLE of elevation..." Not the SINE of the angle.
So you want the angle (A) whose sine is and this is expressed as...
or...
= Inverse
