Question 232058: Find sec theta if tan theta=1/4 and 180Degrees< theta <270degrees. Thankyou!!
Answer by chibisan(131) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let theta be A
so,
tanA = 1/4 , 180°
A lies on the 3rd quadrant since 180°
tanA = opp/adj
{draw a diagram}
(dots are used for spacing.)
.. _4_
.. l.../
1 l../sqrt(17)
.. l/
the hyp will be sqrt(1^2+4^2) = sqrt17
secA = 1/cosA
secA = 1/adj/hyp
secA = hyp/adj
secA = sqrt(17)/4 {ans}
