Question 204828: can you hhelp me on this problem: 1) A parabola has a vertex of (5,4) and x intercepts of 1 and 9. What is the equation of the parabola?
Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
where (h,k) is the vertex
the general equation is ___ y - k = a(x - h)^2

y - 4 = a(x - 5)^2

substituting to find a ___ 0 - 4 = a(1 - 5)^2 ___ -4 = 16a ___ -1/4 = a

so the equation is ___ y - 4 = (-1/4)(x - 5)^2
