From a point on the ground 500 feet from the base of a building, it is observed that the angle of elevation to the top of the building is 24 degrees and the angle of elevation to the top of a flagpole atop the building is 27 degrees. Find the height of the building and the length of the flagpole.
:
We can use the tangent here, Find the side opposite, call it x:
tan(24) =
x = 500 * .44522287
x = 222.6 ft is the building
;
tan(27) =
x = 500 * .509525
x = 254.8 ft, ground to top of flag pole
then
254.8 - 222.6 = 32.2 ft length of the flag pole
