Question 1204663: Two ships left a port at the same time. One ship traveled at a speed of 11 miles per hour at a heading of 320°. The other ship traveled at a speed of 23 miles per hour at a heading of 195°. Find the distance between the two ships after 10 hours of travel. (Round your answer to the nearest mile.)

From the diagram, we will use the cosine formula to find the distance between the two ships at 10 hours, i.e., BC.
So, c^2=a^2+b^2-2abcosc
c^2 = 110^2+230^2-2(110)(230)cos125
= 12100+52900+29022.9676=94022.9676.
as c^2 = 94022.9676
c = sqrt(94022.9676) = 306.631 miles, or mi.
