Question 1155572: The distance from Parrot Point Airport to the Ivy Cliffs is 294 miles at and angle of 8.7 degrees northeast. There is a wind blowing southeast at 20 miles per hour. You want to make this trip in 3 hours by flying straight there. At what speed* and heading should you fly?
* Round the speed to the nearest tenth of a mile per hour and angle to the nearest tenth of a degree. Where 0 < theta < 360 and north is 0 degrees and positive is clockwise.
I need a lot of work for this problem so if you could show all the work to each step that would be great. Also, Thank You so much!!!
Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
angle of 8.7 degrees northeast
-----------
IDK what that means.
I'm familiar with angles on the x-y plane, and headings given using North as 360 or 000 degrees, increasing clockwise, but not 8.7 degs NE.

People who don't know what they're talking about should not attempt to compose math problems.
Or anything else.
=================
There is a wind blowing southeast at 20 miles per hour.
Wind info by ATC or towers is given as the direction it is from.
This would be "winds are 135 at 20" - ignoring the mi/hr. (Aircraft use knots.)
Is that the case here? Is the wind from the southeast?
